De Jong DUKE and One Tree Planted: Our 2024 Impact

In 2024, we have partnered with One Tree Planted to make a real difference. We’ve donated 41,238 trees for a reforestation project in San Martin, Loreto, and Ucayali, Peru. This project focuses on restoring degraded ecosystems, enriching cocoa and coffee plots, and creating agroforestry systems with native Amazonian fruit trees. The initiative also involves planting trees in urban areas to help improve local environments.

Aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this project contributes to:

  • No Poverty by creating jobs and economic opportunities for local communities
  • Clean Water and Sanitation through improved water quality and ecosystem health
  • Climate Action by reducing carbon emissions and enhancing carbon sequestration
  • Life on Land by restoring forests and ecosystems critical for wildlife and biodiversity

Ecological Impacts

The reforestation project brings significant ecological benefits, including substantial CO₂ absorption that helps mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration. It also enhances biodiversity by providing habitats for endemic fauna and bird resting spaces in the treetops. With increased vegetation cover and moisture retention, the project reduces forest fire occurrences by approximately 12%. Additionally, it boosts water flow in basins and micro-basins, supporting hydrological cycles and improving water resources. Finally, the restoration of ecological corridors improves the connectivity between forest patches, fostering healthier ecosystems in the region.

We’re proud to be part of this initiative and excited about the positive impact it will have on the environment, local communities, and future generations. Looking ahead to 2025, we’re more committed than ever to building a better future for all.
